Tears are very cleansing
Like a tonic to the soul
Let them flow, release them
Let go of all untold

With release there comes the comfort
Of letting go of pain
The pressure valve is lifted
and life begins again

It does no good to hold them in
They build up so inside
Until you just can’t stand it
And can no longer hide

After tears there comes the smile
Radiating through
The lightness so uplifting
As it spreads right through

This lightness may not last for long
It may be quite short lived
But each time it visits you
Another gift it gives

Eventually the smile wins out
And the tears are overcome
Instead of greeting darkness
Face uplifted toward the sun

Some of us live in this cycle
Though it’s never what we choose
We need to know we are not alone
And we’ve nothing to lose

By letting out our emotions
And being honest with ourselves
We can help to control it
This dreadful living hell

We don’t want your pity
Just understanding we ask
A smile and your friendship
Help bring light into the dark.
